E.J. Hairston MS, ATC, LAT, FST II

E.J. Hairston is entering his second year with the Waxahachie Indians.  He has spent the previous eight year as an associate athletic trainer at the University of North Texas. Hairston handled the daily operations of the athletic training room and worked primarily with men’s basketball, men’s golf and assisted with football. Prior to North Texas, Hairston worked at Stetson University and Western Carolina University as an assistant athletic trainer.
A native of Lexington, N.C., Hairston graduated from Greensboro College in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in sport and exercise studies with an emphasis in athletic training. He later returned to school to complete his master’s degree in 2006 from North Carolina Central University in physical education with an emphasis in athletics administration. While completing his master’s degree, Hairston was an intern athletic trainer at North Carolina State University, working with softball in its inaugural campaign.
After completing his master’s degree, Hairston accepted his first full-time staff position as an assistant athletic trainer at Western Carolina University, where he worked with women’s soccer for two years. He then moved to Florida to work with baseball and men’s basketball at Stetson University. Also during his time there, he worked as the strength and conditioning coordinator for two years.

Alex is going on her third year working as one of the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Waxahachie ISD primarily in charge of Cross Country, Soccer and Junior High sports. Originally from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, she earned her bachelor’s degree at University of Puerto Rico-Ponce. She came to Nacogdoches, Texas to receive her masters in Athletic Training, graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University. Alex comes to us having worked as a Head Athletic Trainer at Livingston ISD. Assistant Athletic Trainer for Lumberton ISD and Assistant Athletic Trainer at Ennis ISD.


Jeffrey Hooks MS, ATC, LAT

Jeff started in Waxahachie ISD as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in 2019. He is coming to Waxahachie after three years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Marshall ISD. Previously Jeff was a contract athletic trainer with Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
Jeff was born and raised in the Dallas area and is a graduate of Midlothian High school. He graduated from Texas Wesleyan in 2013 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training. He also completed his Master’s in Education at Wayland Baptist in 2015.
In his personal time Jeff enjoys fishing, family, church and his three dogs.


Tyra Gatson MS, LAT, ATC, CES

Tyra Gatson is Assistant Athletic Trainer for Waxahachie ISD. She earned her Master’s of Science in Athletic Training from The University of Houston where she gained experience and knowledge in a variety of settings. In 2019 she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology where she was also a member of the UH Women’s Basketball staff as a student manager.  Tyra was born and raised in Plano, Tx and is a graduate of Plano East Senior High.  She will primarily be working with Cross Country, Softball, and Junior High sports. In her personal time, Tyra enjoys working out, binge watching Tv shows, and basketball
