Waxahachie ISD athletic director Greg Reed has announced that the ballots for this year’s inductees into the Waxahachie High School Athletic Hall of Fame have been tallied, with the inductees confirmed by the Waxahachie Ex-Students’ Association board of directors. This year’s recipients are as follows.
Maggart Howell Jr. (class of ’59) is the 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee into the Legends category, being a part of the WHS Athletic program prior to 1968.
The Modern category consists of those alumni who were a part of the WHS athletic program since 1968, and this year’s inductees are Phil Turner (class of ’70) and David Hudson (class of ’84).
James “Buddy” Hosford and Peggy Cantu will be inducted into the Friend category.
The 2019 inductees will be honored at the eighth annual Induction Ceremony and Scholarship Program at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Coleman Jr. High Fine Arts Center. The ceremony kicks off homecoming weekend.
Proceeds from last year’s event provided scholarship funds for four recent WISD graduates: Cassidy Morgan, Anna Rogers, Sophia Melick and Luke Morgan.
Mark your calendars now and make plans to attend the ceremony.
