Jalen Reagor, the standout junior wide receiver for the TCU Horned Frogs from Waxahachie, announced his decision to declare for the 2020 NFL draft on social media Monday.

“The relationships I have built at TCU will be lifelong friendships,” Reagor wrote, “and I am so proud to have been part of such a great university and football program.”

Reagor burst on to the scene in his freshman season, catching 33 passes for 576 yards and eight touchdowns. He followed that with an even better sophomore campaign, hauling in 72 passes for 1,061 yards and nine scores. He finished his TCU career with 148 catches for 2,248 yards and 22 touchdowns. A massive threat in the return game, Reagor also finished with two punt return touchdowns and averaged 10.5 yards per return. In what turned out to be his final game with TCU, Reagor returned a punt for a touchdown in an eventual loss to West Virginia.

After the 2017 season, he was voted the Big 12 Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year. Reagor was chosen by his teammates as TCU’s MVP after the 2018 season, and was on the Biletnikoff Award watch list entering 2019. He set a TCU record by catching touchdowns in seven consecutive games as a sophomore.

Turmoil at the quarterback position over the past two years might have limited Reagor’s potential with the Horned Frogs, but the 5-11, 195-pound wideout from Waxahachie High School showed enough flashes of brilliance to draw interest from NFL teams. Reagor is the son of former NFL player Montae Reagor, who spent nine seasons in the NFL as a defensive tackle.

There was speculation before the season that Reagor would declare for the draft and skip TCU’s bowl game. But the Horned Frogs fell one game shy of making a bowl, so that speculation was all for naught. Reagor is listed as the No. 12 wide receiver in the most recent draft projections by ESPN.

With Reagor’s departure, Taye Barber will most likely become the No. 1 option for quarterback Max Duggan next season. Te’Vailance Hunt, Derius Davis and Al’Dontre Davis, among others, could fight for the No. 2 role.
