A special ceremony was held during Friday’s varsity football game between the Waxahachie Indians and Ennis Lions to honor the late David Ream for his contributions to Waxahachie athletics. Ream was a high school football coach and educator for more than 37 years and joined Waxahachie ISD in 2000 as its head varsity football coach. He served 15 seasons, fielded 12 playoff teams, and won more than 100 games during his tenure. He passed away July 23, 2021. Between the game’s first and second quarters, WISD athletic director Greg Reed presented Ream’s family with a game ball signed by the football team in his honor. Shown from left are Reed, Waxahachie head football coach Shane Tolleson, daughter Ali Ream, wife Janie Ream, brother Jerry Ream, and Ennis head football coach Sam Harrell, whose teams had faced off against Ream’s multiple times in the Battle of 287’s storied rivalry. Unable to be at the game was Ream’s other daughter, Kelsey Ream Solis.
