CEDAR HILL — For the 21st consecutive season, the state-ranked Waxahachie Lady Indian volleyball team is playoff bound.
No. 20 Waxahachie swept host Cedar Hill (25-10, 25-15, 25-23) on Tuesday to improve to 33-10 on the season and a perfect 11-0 in District 11-6A. They’ve now won 15 consecutive matches, with the Lady Indians’ last loss coming during tournament action against Flower Mound Marcus (25-27, 25-22, 22-25) on Aug. 26.
Waxahachie head volleyball coach Sandy Faussett-Stoops is in her 22nd season leading the Lady Indians. The 21 consecutive playoff berths have occurred across Class 4A, 5A and 6A.
The Lady Indians can do no worse than third in the final standings, as (23-16, 5-5) Mansfield Lake Ridge suffered its fifth district loss to Cedar Hill on Oct. 4. The side can do no worse than second with one more victory over its final four matches — the first two at home against Mansfield Legacy (10/14) and DeSoto (10/18), followed by road tilts against Mansfield (10/21) and Mansfield Lake Ridge (10/25).
Waxahachie previously swept three of the future four opponents in the first round of district play while needing four sets to upend Mansfield on Sept. 27. All signs point to the Oct. 21 showdown against (28-3, 9-1) Mansfield being the match that could decide the district champion.
No team in the district has won more than four consecutive games (Mansfield). To take the stat a step further — only 17 Class 6A programs across the state entered Tuesday’s matches with a 10-game-or-better winning streak.
