A pair of signature wins highlighted the opening two weeks of District 11-6A action for Waxahachie Lady Indians on the softball diamond.

The Lady Indians began their district slate with a thrilling come-from-behind home win against the always pesky Mansfield Lake Ridge, 9-8, on March 9. They then capped the four-game stretch with an impressive 10-7 victory on their home turf against perennial playoff contender Duncanville.

Waxahachie has since reeled off wins against Waco (20-11), DeSoto (15-1) and, most recently, Cedar Hill (16-10), while only falling twice over that span against Mansfield (8-4) and state power Midway (10-3).

The run has positioned the Lady Indians for a shot at a top-three, if not top-two, finish in the 11-6A standings. They’ve also built a two-game lead on fifth-place Duncanville for the district’s final playoff spot.

As of Monday, Waco Midway sat atop the 11-6A standings with an 8-0 mark and 13-1 overall. The Lady Panthers are followed by (18-7, 7-2) Mansfield, (10-9, 5-2) Mansfield Lake Ridge and Waxahachie.

Waco, Cedar hill and DeSoto round out the district standings, having won a combined four games between the three programs.

LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Indians scored the final eight runs Saturday afternoon to pick up a 16-10 road win against Cedar Hill. Six of those runs crossed in the top of the seventh inning to break a 10-10 tie.

Kadin Vire, Marlee Jackson, Molly Gilbert, McKenna Stone and Kennedy Massey each collected three hits on a night that saw Waxahachie outhit Cedar Hill, 19-10.

No hit was bigger than Massey’s three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. She finished the game 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs and a walk.

Massey currently leads the Lady Indians with four round-trippers, 27 RBIs and an impressive .476 batting average.

Gilbert, Jackson, Stone and Vire all recorded a double against Cedar Hill. Vire is second on the team with 20 RBIs and is currently hitting at a .469 clip. She leads the team with 25 runs scored.

Kylee Raney (9-6, 6.42 ERA) picked up the win inside the circle. She allowed five earned earns, struck out eight and walked six over seven full innings.

Raney recorded her eighth strikeout in the fifth to push her over the 100-punchout plateau for the season.
